Glarus Nord leads a very crowded field
Glarus Nord currently holds the title for the most tax-friendly municipality in Canton Glarus. Based on PLZHub's scenarios, it sits at 10.3% for a single person earning 80k (single_80k), 15.6% for a couple earning 120k (couple_120k), and 14.1% for a family earning 150k (family_150k).

But here's the catch: for singles, it's actually a tie. The burden is exactly 10.3% in both Glarus Nord and Glarus Süd. It's only when you look at the couple and family scenarios that Glarus Nord manages to pull ahead slightly.
The shortest ranking in Switzerland
Because Canton Glarus went through a massive merger years ago, it only has three municipalities. So the full ranking looks like this:
- Glarus Nord
- Glarus Süd
- Glarus
That order remains consistent across all three PLZHub scenarios, even though the margins are incredibly tight.

Just look at the spread across the entire canton:
- 0.1 points for singles (from 10.3% to 10.4%)
- 0.2 points for couples (from 15.6% to 15.8%)
- 0.2 points for families (from 14.1% to 14.3%)
What does that mean for you? It means taxes shouldn't drive your moving decision in Glarus. The financial difference between living in Glarus Nord versus Glarus town is so small that a slightly cheaper apartment or a shorter commute will instantly wipe it out.
Run your own numbers
While the ranking gives you a quick snapshot of the landscape, you shouldn't sign a lease based on these percentages alone. Always plug your exact salary and deductions into the official cantonal tax calculator before making a final call.
